Dr. Jena holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Sustainable Energy and Environment from Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Odisha, India, with an impressive 8.5 CGPA. He earned his M-Tech in Production Engineering, B.E. degrees in both Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and an MBA in Production Management. Additionally, he is a Certified Energy Manager and Auditor (BEE, Govt. of India) and a Certified Machinery Safety Expert (CMSE). His certifications from prestigious institutions like MIT (USA) and IIT Kharagpur in Six Sigma, Cost Accounting, Supply Chain, and Industrial Safety further amplify his technical prowess and industry-readiness.
Professional Experience
With a wealth of hands-on experience, Dr. Jena has worked across cement plants, fiber cement sheet manufacturing, flexible and offset packaging, and plastic processing industries. As COO and Plant Head, he has led operations in multi-location units with strategic responsibilities covering EHS compliance, production planning, budgeting, quality control, maintenance, and team leadership. He has contributed to commissioning major projects including kilns, ball mills, crushers, and pollution control systems. His operational exposure at ITC Ltd. extended to handling multi-product units including snack, soap, sanitizer, dairy, and paperboard plants, reflecting his versatile engineering command.
Research Interests
Dr. Jena’s research spans a wide spectrum of areas including Industry 4.0 integration, sustainable manufacturing, root cause analysis models, environmental impact assessment, renewable energy optimization, and reliability engineering. He is the creator of several industry-specific analytical frameworks such as the Hat Curve of Reliability, EEE Impact Analysis, RCA Pyramid, RISCC Model, and the POP Index for plant performance. These models have found both academic recognition and real-world implementation across sectors for improving safety, operational efficiency, and sustainability.

Dr. Jena is a recipient of two Golden Peacock Awards, two International Safety Awards, and two consecutive National Safety Council Awards for outstanding plant safety and sustainability efforts during his tenure at ITC Ltd.
