Prof. Dr. Ioan Sârbu is a professor emeritus and doctoral supervisor in Civil and Building Services Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Timișoara (UPT), Romania. He earned a diploma in civil engineering in 1975 and a PhD in civil engineering in 1993, dedicating more than four decades to academic teaching, research, and leadership at UPT, including nearly 20 years as Head of the Building Services Department and Head of the National Building Equipment Laboratory. Previously, he held research and academic positions at Chungnam National University (South Korea), South China Normal University (China), and Alex Ekwueme Federal University (Nigeria). His research focuses on nanotechnology for energy storage and conversion, including advanced nanomaterial synthesis, photo- and electrocatalysis for hydrogen production, high-performance supercapacitor electrodes, and biocompatible nanomaterials for biomedical applications. He has supervised undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and mentored international graduate students. His scholarly output is reflected in a strong citation record and an H-index of 21. He has received competitive international funding, including serving as Principal Investigator on a major National Research Foundation of South Korea grant, underscoring his contributions to sustainable energy and functional nanomaterials research.
