Throughout her career, Prof. Pillay has held various academic roles, including Full Professor (2020-Present) and Associate Professor (2017-2020) at the University of Johannesburg. She has also served as a Senior Lecturer (2011-2017) and has extensive teaching experience from her time as a Temporary Teacher and Demonstrator in various institutions. Prof. Pillay’s research focuses on the removal of heavy metals and organic pollutants from industrial effluents using adsorption and photocatalysis. She is currently supervising multiple MSc and PhD students on projects involving modified conducting polymers and environmental remediation. Additionally, she leads a research group exploring nano-structured materials for forensic applications, collaborating with the South African Police Force.
