Dr. Sukanta Nath is a highly skilled and dedicated Research Scientist, currently working at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Centre, Agartala, since April 2020. With over 15 years of experience in the field of molecular biology, he has contributed significantly to cancer research, virology, and histopathological studies. 🎓 Academic Qualifications

Dr. Nath holds a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Gauhati University, awarded in 2018, with a thesis titled “Molecular Profiling and Documentation of Adverse Drug Reactions in Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML).” He completed his M.Sc. in Biotechnology from Utkal University in 2006, after earning a B.Sc. in Botany, Zoology, and Physiology from Calcutta University in 2003. He also completed his Higher Secondary and Madhyamik from the Tripura Board of Secondary Education, establishing a strong foundation in the life sciences.

🧪 Research Experience

Dr. Nath’s research journey began at Imgenex India Pvt. Ltd., Bhubaneswar, where he worked on breast tumorigenesis. He later joined the prestigious Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, as a Project Assistant, contributing to a CSIR-funded cancer genomics project. From there, he moved into industry at Aurigene Discovery Technologies Ltd., a subsidiary of Dr. Reddy’s Lab, where he worked as a Research Associate in the GLP-certified Preclinical Safety Evaluation Department. His academic experience continued at Gauhati University, where he served as a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and later as a Ph.D. scholar, conducting critical research in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). He also served as a Molecular Scientist and Quality Manager at Agility Diagnostics Pvt. Ltd., Delhi, working on real-time PCR and diagnostic genotyping. Before joining his current position, he was a Research Associate at the College of Fisheries, Central Agricultural University, Lembucherra, Tripura.

Dr. Nath is proficient in molecular biology techniques, including gene expression analysis, real-time PCR, and DNA/RNA extraction. He has substantial experience in conducting both in vivo and in vitro studies and has contributed to several histopathological investigations. His core areas of interest include molecular biology, cancer research, and virology, fields in which he continues to pursue scientific innovation and discovery.

Throughout his career, Dr. Nath has actively participated in national seminars and scientific conferences, where he presented posters on topics such as the expression of the CYP17 gene, dopamine receptors, and Brdt gene characterization in Clarias batrachus. In addition to his research contributions, Dr. Nath has guided upcoming researchers, including Ayushi Gupta, a B.Tech Biotechnology student from Banasthali University, Rajasthan, on a thesis titled “Genotyping of Hepatitis C Virus by Real-Time PCR” during her training at Agility Diagnostics Pvt. Ltd. His mentorship reflects his commitment to training and educating the next generation of scientists.

Dr. Nath has participated in several workshops and training programs to expand his professional expertise. In 2020, he attended a month-long workshop on Recent Diagnostic Modalities for Infectious Viral Diseases, supported by the Department of Health Research, at AGMC, Agartala.
