Concern CSRI Elektropribor | Russia

Dr. Boris S. Rivkin is a distinguished navigation scientist and engineer with over five decades of contributions to maritime technology and research. A graduate of the Physics and Mechanics Faculty of Leningrad Polytechnic Institute (1963), he earned his PhD in 1978 for pioneering investigations in marine integrated-navigation systems. Throughout his career at the Central Scientific Research Institute “Elektropribor” in Saint Petersburg, he advanced to lead the Navigation Competence Center, guiding innovations in shipboard navigation and control. Dr. Rivkin played a pivotal role in developing Russia’s first maritime integrated navigation systems, Briz-N and Biruza-NK, serving as deputy chief designer. His research interests span integrated navigation, e-Navigation, autonomous and unmanned ships, gyroscopic sensors, neural networks in marine systems, and maritime cybersecurity. He has published over 15 papers in leading indexed journals, notably Gyroscopy and Navigation, where he also serves as Deputy Chief Editor. He has chaired numerous international conferences and contributed to the International Association of the Institute of Navigation as an officer. Recipient of several institutional recognitions for technical excellence, Dr. Rivkin remains a leading figure in the evolution of intelligent maritime navigation systems, continually advancing the integration of digital technologies to enhance safety, autonomy, and precision at sea.
