Mr. Luis Montes-Bazurto | Conservation Biological Control | Research Excellence Award

Universidad de Lleida | Spain

Luis Montes-Bazurto is an accomplished agronomist and PhD candidate at the Universidad de Lleida, Spain, and IRTA, specializing in sustainable pest management and entomology. He earned his Agronomist Engineering degree from Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogotá, in 2008. With extensive experience in oil palm and coconut pest research, Luis has contributed significantly to the understanding of insect pests such as Demotispa neivai, Elaeidobius species, and Stenoma impressella, exploring both biological and chemical control methods. His work encompasses field and laboratory studies on entomopathogenic fungi, pheromone-based management, and pollinator-pest interactions, with applications in integrated pest management for tropical crops. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, and non-refereed publications, reflecting his expertise in insect ecology, biological control, and crop protection. His research interests extend to the role of nectar resources and synthetic volatiles in enhancing natural enemy populations in orchards. Recognized for his contributions to sustainable agriculture, Luis has presented his findings in international conferences and collaborated on interdisciplinary projects across Colombia and Europe. His work emphasizes environmentally responsible pest control strategies, aiming to improve crop productivity while conserving ecological balance, establishing him as a leading researcher in tropical entomology and integrated pest management.
