Subsequently, he pursued a Ph.D. at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, completing his doctoral studies in July 2014.

Since December 2016, Assoc Prof Dr.Duan has been serving as an Associate Professor at the University of South China, and he took on the role of Director of the Geology Department in December 2020.
