🌟Academic Background

Tijani Mohammed is a dedicated researcher and engineer with a strong focus on improving the durability and sustainability of concrete materials. His expertise lies in characterizing chemical deterioration processes and developing innovative solutions to enhance the performance of concrete. Tijani has worked on numerous projects addressing mechanical and durability-related issues in cement-based materials, such as corrosion, carbonation, sulfate attack, alkali-aggregate reactivity, and early-volume changes. He has significant experience in multi-scale testing, conducting both laboratory and field evaluations, and monitoring pavement and bridge structures. Tijani’s research efforts center around designing experimental tools for durability, hydration, microstructural development, and early-age volume change in cementitious systems.

🎓 Education

Tijani earned his Ph.D. in Material Science Engineering and Commercialization with a specialization in Infrastructure Materials Engineering from Texas State University, San Marcos, in May 2024. His dissertation focused on the multi-scale investigation, characterization, and microstructural analysis of alternative cementitious materials for sustainable development. He also holds an M.S. in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural and Infrastructure Materials Engineering from Texas State University, where he explored the incorporation of high-volume fly ash to produce structural lightweight concrete. Tijani completed his B.S. in Civil Engineering at Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, alongside a diploma in the Ukrainian language.

💼 Professional Experience

Currently, Tijani is an Associate Engineer at the Bureau of Mining Regulation and Reclamation. He has also served as a Doctoral Teaching Assistant at Texas State University, where he was involved in teaching and mentoring students. Tijani gained valuable industry experience as a Materials Scientist Intern at Solidia Technologies and has held project management roles at the Ministry of Special Initiative, GH, and Engen Ghana Limited.

🔬 Research Interests

Tijani’s research interests focus on the durability of sustainable and alternative cement-based materials (ACMs), exploring the use of supplementary cementing materials (SCMs), and effectively utilizing locally available materials in concrete. He is particularly interested in the application of rapid-setting and novel cements for accelerated infrastructure construction and is dedicated to developing and improving durability performance methods and specifications for cement and concrete. His work also involves the implementation of emerging technologies and advanced sensing systems for the multi-scale characterization and modeling of infrastructure materials, as well as long-term performance and structural health monitoring of infrastructure systems.

🏆 Awards and Honors

Tijani has received numerous awards for his academic and research excellence, including the 2024 Graduate College’s Outstanding Dissertation Award in Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Engineering at Texas State University. He was awarded the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Fellowship and Scholarship in 2023, among other recognitions such as the Texas State Society of Plastics Engineers Chapter Award, Atlantic Housing Foundation Scholarships, and government scholarships from Ukraine and Ghana during his studies at Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture.
