His doctoral research focused on the catalytic conversion of biomass to fuels and commodity chemicals, specifically exploring the hydrodeoxygenation of biomass-derived fast pyrolysis oil.

Following his Ph.D., Dr. Bagnato pursued various research and teaching roles at prestigious institutions. He worked as a Research Associate in the seafood bio-refinery project at Heriot-Watt University, conducting technical and economic assessments of a biorefinery approach to valorizing by-products from the Thai seafood processing industry.
